History: Created by intelligences greater than that of man’s, an alien civilization studied the Earth and sent a rocket ship to gather information. Onboard this ship were two creatures, two beasts that had one purpose: to feed and transmit the data they absorb back to their home planet. When the rocket landed in the rural forests of the United States, one of the two beasts escaped into the wilderness while the other, still strapped into the rocket, remained behind. The one inside the rocket ship killed a forest ranger and the town sheriff when they tried to enter it, and the wandering creature fed on anyone and anything that crossed its path, from teens to little kids, everyone was devoured.
It didn’t take long for the army to get involved, and with the help of Dr. Bradford, began to study the ship and the creature inside. After the other creature stalked and killed more people, including a large group of picnickers and then a dance hall where it crashed the party and killed many, the soldiers began to trap it.
Gunfire had no effect and the thing devoured more with its large mouth. With everything else failing, Col. James Caldwell advanced on, ready to destroy the creature with grenades. Before he could chuck his explosive bombs, he tripped and almost fell victim to the slow-moving abomination. As it slowly trekked forward, Caldwell lifted his grenade again and threw it.
The resulting blast sent a wall of dust flying and killed the lumbering, slug-like alien beast. As the others rushed to his side, Dr. Bradford reached into the remains of the beast and pulled out not blood and guts, but wires and circuitry! The thing was a probe, feeding on humans, sending information back to the ship, and transmitting it to a faraway world.
Realizing what this meant, the brilliant scientist rushed back to the ship. Once entering a blast rocked the insides of the vessel and freed the restrained terror. As Bradford escaped, the monster emerged, trying to devour him like it did its previous victims. As he kicked out and tried to fight back, Martin Gordon, deputy acting sheriff, smashed into the side of the monster with his car.
The beast was instantly killed, but it was too late. By the time it died, the signal that contained the information both creatures had absorbed had been transmitted back to its alien world, boding an uncertain future for humanity.
