History: Thousands of years ago, an ancient king commissioned a powerful sorcerer to construct two beasts to protect the land. The beasts did their job and, when finished, were made to look at one another. When their eyes met, their bodies turned to stone. Overtime, the vicious creatures became a myth. Their rampages a thing of legends, it was said they would return to protect the land once again in the future.
During the United States’ War on Terror, the pair of Manticore were hoped to be resurrected by insurgents determined to rid the country of the foreign occupants. During the awakening, one of the stone statues was destroyed when the pair responsible for finding the ancient amulet used to awaken them realized what was about to happen. The second, surviving Manticore began to stalk the landscape, laying waste to a small Iraqi town.
When a squad of American soldiers were dispatched to the town, the Manticore made its move. It killed one of the soldiers and began stalking them through the town. It destroyed their rescue helicopter, forcing the survivors and the soldiers to come together or die. The beast continued its assault, unable to be hurt by the puny gunfire of the armed forces. A bomber was called in to destroy the town, and hopefully, the creature along with it.
The survivors struggled to escape the town as the Manticore continued its hunt. With only a few of the soldiers alive, the bomber reached its target and delivered its payload, decimating the Iraqi town in a destructive fireball! As morning came and the smoke and fire cleared, the Manticore arose from the carnage. Forcing Fathi, the man whom resurrected the beast, to stand and watch, Sergeant Baxter removed a mirror-like jamming device from their vehicle and held it before the creature, hoping its reflection would turn it to stone.
Just as it began to work, Fathi hit him in the head with a rock. the mirror fell, allowing the creature to return to normal. As it approached Baxter, Fathi held the medallion that granted him immunity from its rage. An RPG was launched from Cpl. Keats, wounding the man and destroying the medallion. Turning its sights toward its former master, the Manticore tore him apart while the two soldiers hid beneath their vehicle.
As the monster crawled on top of it, a video camera was used to make it see itself within the screen. As the battery began to die, Cpl. Keats refused to throw a grenade, fearing it would also kill the Sergeant. Using a large hammer, she came down on the beast’s head as it began to recover. The body of the beast exploded outward, raining stone around the area. At last, the terror of the Manticore had been put to an end.
