History: In the old west, the Indians knew of these creatures. They had been around long before the white man arrived, and even before the Native Americans. They came every third generation and fed on buffalo, but when man hunted their food into near extinction, they had to find a new source. It came in the form of a man, and the Burrowers knew no difference between white man and Indian. The creatures attacked, leaving several dead and others missing.
A search party is organized and all eyes fall on the Native Americans that had been done to kill on sight. But as soldiers start to go missing, the truth slowly began to unravel that the force out here was much more lethal to any man.
Soon the soldiers and the search party separated, and, in one dark night, the creatures attacked, almost killing William Parcher, but only managed to scratch his throat. The beasts fought on until dawn and then retreated under the soil. They attacked another one of the party whom was taking one of the girls they unburied back to the nearby fort, and soon a last effort battle was brewing.
Only one Native American tribe was able to unlock the secrets of the beasts, and the Ute were said to be just as bad as the white men when it came to brutality. This statement was all too true for they kidnapped the infected man and used him as bait. Drugging Mr. Parcher, they waited for the creatures to come out that night.
Wanting to save him, the last member of the posse, the Irishman Coffey, killed one of the Indians and wounded the other. He tried to fend off the blood thirsty creatures, but they fed on William Parcher anyway. Busying himself in staying alive, Coffey didn’t know what the Ute had done until he finished off one of the Burrowers himself.
The creatures were drugged and knocked out, unable to move. Picking up spears, the cowboy began to impale the beasts, keeping them in place until the sun rose. The rays of the morning star shined down, instantly melting the predators. However, despite his best efforts, Coffey was unable to preserve the Ute’s secret in defeating the creatures. The Calvary, blaming the whole incident on the Indian populace, hung him. While this batch of Burrowers was killed, dozens more still lurked in the darkness, digging up their buried prey to feed once they ripened.
