History: After defeating Grendel, an unseen enemy attacked the kingdom. Beowulf set out to the creatures’ caves to kill what he discovered was Grendel’s mother, but instead of killing her, he made a union with her much like King Hrothgar did before him. Afterward, Beowulf’s own desires began to come true, he was awarded with kingship and now ruled the lands, but his sins would come back to haunt him. Grendel’s mother gave birth to a new, much more powerful enemy: a fire-breathing Golden Dragon! After ravaging the village around the castle, the son of Beowulf had a message sent to his father.
Knowing the dragon was of his own, Beowulf set back out to caves and tried to stop both the Golden Dragon and the temptress. Upon seeing his father, the dragon unleashed a stream of burning flames. The warrior escaped and gave chase, eventually managing to crawl up onto its body until both plummeted into the sea. Beowulf secured a sunken anchor and chain to its body, allowing him to hold on while the dragon burst from the water and sat its eyes on the queen. Beowulf managed to slice open the soft spot on its neck, preventing it from firing anymore flames, but the threat of its snapping jaws and gargantuan size was still there.
Unable to reach the heart in its neck, Beowulf severed his own arm that was tied around the chain. The chain mail that armored his body prevented him from falling into the sea and gave him more inches of reach. Trying once more, Beowulf dropped the blade inside of the reptile’s body when it swallowed chunks of rubble from the castle. Screaming in rage, the warrior king used the last of his strength to swing his body forward and reach in, grasping the heart in his hand and crushing it! The fearsome dragon fell to his death, bringing Beowulf along with him. Lying next to one another as the dragon’s body changed into that of a man’s, the pair died together.
