History: A demon from Hell that began to hunt London, Scorpio’s rampage came about like a new disease. Ripping the hearts out of his victims and eating them, the creature attacked and killed a police officer, Foster McClain, but his partner Harley Stone became obsessed. Also attacked by the demon, but surviving his encounter, Stone began to hunt the fiend. Forever hearing the creature’s heartbeat when it was near, Scorpio’s desires began to make sense as the year of the rat, 2008, came to be, and a flood washed over most of the city, bringing with it the nasty vermin.
The monster returned and Stone was on the hunt again, but he could rarely see it, only hearing its haunting heartbeat. It attacked and killed a stripper, taking her heart. When Stone was teamed with the by-the-books detective Durkin, the pair set out to try and find the killer. Stone knew it wasn’t human, and soon would Durkin.
Finding nothing but its victims without hearts and strange markings on the ceilings, written in blood, the pair continued to hunt the creature before realizing it didn’t have the time to rip out the heart of its latest slay. It attacked the same building Harley lived in, killing one of the downstairs neighbors before vanishing again, leaving a bloody room and a massacred corpse behind. Before Stone could return to Michelle, Scorpio found her and bit her shoulder, showing his enemy just how easy it would have been to slaughter her also.
They waited for it back at the police morgue where it fell from the ceiling. Durkin got his first look at their adversary before it smashed its way through a steel door, fleeing from the scene and escaping at blinding fast speeds.
After loading up with more firepower and incendiary bombs, the pair returned back to Stone’s apartment. It eventually attacked Durkin, carving up his chest to map out the sign of Scorpio again and luring Stone away from Michelle. With nobody to protect her, the girl was kidnapped by the fiend and taken into the abandoned, half-flooded subway systems beneath the city. Using the markings on Durkin’s chest to map out its location in the city, the pair tracked the killer.
The beast used Michelle as bait, hanging her from the ceiling in a circle of light. When Durkin and Stone arrived to save her, it burst from the water. While Durkin saved Michelle, Stone found himself alone with the beast. Before it could kill its nemesis, however, Harley began to fire at it, allowing Stone to escape as he threw one of the grenades at it.
A fireball ripped through the abandoned train, but still the creature refused to die. As the smoke cleared, Harley stuffed an electrical wire into the train, surging the beast with thousands of volts before Durkin ended the attack. With its body burnt and cut, Scorpio attacked again, holding Harley against the wall of the train. Weakened, however, the demon could do little as his enemy spun him around and plunged his hand into his chest, pulling out his beating heart.
As the body lay helpless, Harley pulled out his sidearm and shot the beating heart, killing this creature. The three walked away with their lives, but as they returned to the surface, bubbles began to rise from the cold, dark water, a new one on its way.
