History: Trapped in a wooden box dating back to the 1920’s, a Jewish demon, a dybbuk, hungered for life. It traveled the world, eventually coming into the possession of the young Emily Em Brenek. As her parents went through a lengthy divorce, the malevolent spirit within the box began to take its grasp. Overnight, her behavior began to change. Vast amounts of moths began to invade her father’s home while the family believed her aggression was a natural response to the divorce. However, when she lashed out at a classmate that attempted to take the box, her father knew something else was at work.
After the spirit within the box killed her teacher and Em began talking about an invisible woman living within it, Clyde took it and threw it away. Unfortunately, the dybbuk inside wouldn’t be denied so easily. Em ran away after an invisible force made it seem as if her father had struck her. Homing in on the box, she found it. The top of it opened up, releasing a swarm of moths that flew into the girl’s mouth. After she passed out, Clyde found and brought her home where the police and her mother took her away.
Returning and picking up the box, Clyde sought information from a Jewish professor at the university before trying to excise the demon himself. After failing, he ventured into the Hasidic community of Brooklyn and found help in the form of young Jewish man named Tzadok. After examining the box, he realized what the spirit inside was, Abyzou – the taker of children!
After her mother discovered her gorging herself like an animal in the kitchen, Em viciously attacked her. After she regained control of herself, Stephani decided to take her to a psychologist. Just before they left, the demon inside the girl caused all of her mother’s boyfriend’s teeth to fall out. As he fled, she collapsed into a seizure and was rushed to the hospital. After seeing a face in the MRI images, Stephanie now also realized that their daughter was being possessed. Putting their faith into Tzadok, they prepared to do an exorcism.
Fighting back, Em managed to escape as her father took chase. Cornering her in the morgue, the little light suddenly shut off and the possessed girl attacked. Ordering the demon to take him, Abyzou seemingly obliged. When the others caught up, both acted normal. However, Tzadok saw through the ruse. As the family embraced, he began ordering Abyzou back into its box. Clyde’s body slid across the floor and the evil spirit within him began to crawl out of his mouth. The hag-like demon crawled back into the box and was once again trapped. Tzadok took possession of the box and the Brenek family was reunited. Unfortunately, while returning the cursed box back to his own, Tzadok was in a fatal car accident. The box would continue to move about, seeking a host.
