History: Millions, if not billions, of years ago, the civilizations on Mars died. However, those that lived there felt the need to protect the planet from any intrusive species. Thus, locked away within secret chambers, spores of microscopic creature existed. Even before the time of man, several civilizations tried to colonize Mars but fell to the possession and eventual destruction brought about by the Martian ghosts. In the second half of the 22nd century, humanity successfully began to terraform Mars. As progress blossomed and the atmosphere became breathable, a remarkable discovery was made in the mountains. As a group of scientists explored a hidden, unnatural opening carved into the side of a mountain, the horror was unleashed. A red cloud spread far and wide, carried by the Martian winds.
Following train tracks, the spores began to overtake towns. Rumors of the destruction began to spread and soon a group of Martian police officers got wrapped up in the terror. Arriving at an isolated mining community to pick up James “Desolation” Williams, a notorious thug, they were quickly forced to join forces with Desolation and his goons in order to survive. Over two-hundred miners had become possessed and began moving through the town, destroying everything in sight and forcing the remaining officers and Desolation barricaded themselves in the town’s jail.
After Lieutenant Ballard was nearly possessed, saved only thanks to the illegal drugs she casually took, she saw a glimpse of the ghosts’ history and what their purpose was. Deciding to flee, the group fought through the hordes of possessed and reached the train. However, as they gained distance between the army of insanity, the group decided to return. They hoped a nuclear explosion would be enough to wipe out the spores responsible for the possession. Once again battling the legions, it soon came down to just Desolation and Lieutenant Ballard. When the explosion was triggered, it was large enough to be seen from space and Ballard returned to the primary Martian city to deliver her report, however Desolation had escaped. Shortly after recapping the events, the madness reached the city. As the possessed swarmed the streets, Desolation returned with heavy arms. Locating Ballard, the pair of heroes walked outside and readied for war, perhaps for the last time.
