Blob
Height: Indeterminable
Length: Indeterminable
Mass: Indeterminable
Crawling Speed: Slow
Powers:
- Dissolve: Having no mouth and no way to actually feed on its prey like a normal creature, the Blob resorts to virtually pulling its victims into its gooey body where its acidic properties quickly kick in. The Blob can dissolve an adult human in less than a few minutes.
- Accelerated Growth: Linked to the amount of victims it can dissolve and absorb, the Blob has an accelerated growth, capable of growing from the size of a baseball to the side of a small building in less than a day. Furthermore, if a piece of the Blob is removed, it can also remain alive and grow should it be able to absorb enough prey.
- Stretch: The Blob can stretch its body out to become thin enough to creep under doors or big enough to cover entire walls.
Weaknesses: The Blob will turn into a crystal-like state when exposed to the cold.
First Appearance: The Blob (1958)
Other Appearances: Son of Blob (1972)
Human Kills: Not Available
Fight Record: None
Home World: None (Space)
Type: Alien
History: Arriving to Earth inside a small meteor, the Blob was discovered by an old man whom promptly decided to start poking it with a stick. In response, the goo-like organism attached to his hand and, despite his best efforts to remove it, failed to get it off. Screaming in agony, the man ran into the road where he was found by the young couple of Steve Andrews and Jane Martin. In a panic, the loving couple decided to rush him to the town’s doctor. While the teens tried finding any information on who the old man was and what was on his hand, the doctor tried treating him. However, as time slowly passed, the alien on his hand began to grow!
In due time, it dissolved the entire body of man and attacked both the nurse and doctor. Just as Steve and Jane returned, the young Mr. Andrews saw the Blob kill the doctor through the window. Quickly gathering the police, they found no evidence of the monster nor bodies of the nurse, doctor, or old man. In total fright and the police refusing to believe the monster story, Steve and Jane began rounding up their friends and decided to hunt for the shapeless killer themselves. The Blob devoured anybody it crossed paths with until Steve and Jane located it in a grocery store. They fled, cornering themselves in a freezer where the monster refused to enter. It silently left its prey in search for an easier meal. When they managed to get the police to come again, the Blob was long gone and had found its way into the movie theater.
Having grown to a gigantic size, the acidic muck caused total chaos. Dozens fled the building as it emerged through the entrance doors. Seeing her little brother flee into the next door diner, Jane and Steve followed and barricaded themselves inside. The Blob quickly engulfed the building, putting tremendous pressure upon its walls and windows as it slowly crept inside. On the outside, the police tried dropping a power line on the man-eating monster, but the voltage had no affect. Trapped in the basement, the dinner’s owner began to spray CO2 on the fires caused by the dropped power line. Steve quickly noticed the creature began to crawl away from the cold and then remembered how it refused to follow him and his girlfriend into the freezer.
Shouting upstairs so the phone could pick up his voice, he instructed the outside police to freeze it. Every fire extinguisher in town was gathered and deployed, spraying the shapeless mass with CO2. The Blob was soon frozen and its night of terror over. Before it could thaw, the mass was gathered and transported to the Arctic Circle where it would, hopefully, remain frozen forever.
Unfortunately, just over a decade later, a worker from the arctic had discovered a specimen canister containing a small piece of the beast. He brought it back home with him and, carelessly, he and his wife let it thaw! The Blob was unleashed once more and its hunger was insatiable. It traveled from house to house, devouring any mortal thing it could while growing in size. In a matter of hours, it was even bigger than it was before!
After attacking a packed bowling alley, the beast trekked into the next door ice skating rink. Having trapped three people in main office of the rink, the Blob refused to leave them alive. On the outside, after failing to stop it with gunfire, the police readied to try and burn it alive, believing those trapped inside to be already dead. Knowing the monster was highly susceptible to the cold, Bobby began a daring plan to move above the slithering mass by rope. He managed to get around it and turn on the ice rink just before the police started the fire. The rink quickly iced over, once again reducing the giant thing to a frozen state. The mighty Blob was defeated, but as officials prepared to relocate, it already began to thaw…
