Monoliths
Height: Varies
Mass: Varies
Powers:
- Growth and Spread: The monoliths grow extremely rapidly when introduced to water. Once at a high enough level, usually rivaling a skyscraper in size, they will fall to the ground and shatter. Each piece that is broken off will then grow, repeating the process endlessly.
- Silica Absorption: The monoliths thrive on silica and can suck any silica or silicon from anything that touches them, including humans. Should a living being touch a monolith, they will become extremely hard as if a rock.
Weaknesses: The monoliths are extremely susceptible to saltwater and will stop growing once exposed.
First Appearance: The Monolith Monsters (1957)
Human Kills: Not Available
Fight Record: None
Home World: None (Outer Space)
Type: Alien
History: Everyday, the Earth is pummeled with space rocks. However, most of these land in the oceans and cause no damage. Unfortunately for a quiet community within the deserts of the United States, one falling star brought with it an alien menace. Those that picked up pieces of the black rock were quickly either killed in a petrified state or slowly to succumb to it. After a geologist studying the rock was found dead and his lab in ruins by a sudden growth of the rock, a young girl was found in the ruins of her farmyard home.
Discovering that all silica had been drained from their bodies, the scientists managed to save the girl’s life, but the threat of the sprouting monoliths still loomed. After a fierce rainstorm, the objects spread like wildfire. Becoming the size of skyscrapers, they grew and spread across the landscape. If they breached the mountain barrier of the valley, there would be no stopping them from spreading across the entire world! Thankfully, a way of stopping the dreaded things was discovered: salt.
Just as the expanding forest of huge rocks reached the outskirts of the canyon, the local dam was blown. The water flooded through the valley, absorbing massive amounts of salt from the mines. The new saltwater river hit the dark objects, causing instant destruction of the monoliths. The invasion of the rocks from outer space ended, allowing mankind to breath a sigh of relief.
