History: In 1969, it made its great return. A gigantic species of prehistoric whale, the beast attacked an American submarine, the USS Acushnet, off the coast of Russian waters. It demolished the high-tech vessel, tearing half of it into the dark abyss. The destruction it wrought, however, was nothing compared to the painful obsession he gave the future Captain Ahab. In the assault, the man’s face was scarred and his leg severed. While sightings and attacks by the great white whale continued on to the modern age, the mortal vowed vengeance against it. With his own vessel, the USS Pequod, Ahab’s quest for revenge began in 2010.
When Ahab went rogue in his hunt, the USS Essex was deployed to bring him back. In their own search for the world’s most powerful, nuclear-armed submarine, they attracted Moby Dick! The monstrous whale attacked, avoiding the Essex’s torpedoes and annihilating the submarine. Playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the undersea battleship, Moby Dick nearly sunk the Pequod after being hit with a large harpoon made from a piece of the Acushnet’s hull.
Moby Dick began to dive, taking the Pequod with it! The immense pressure of the deep threatened to crush the submarine. When the line finally snapped, the submarine quickly lifted to the surface. Emerging from the deep blue, Moby Dick taunted the black warship. The Pequod gave chase, blindly forcing the whale into an atoll where it got trapped in the shallows. Ahab and his crew took to land and battled the beast with gunfire. When Ahab hit the whale with another harpoon, the rope got entangled around his foot. The whale soon dove back under, dragging its human nemesis with it. At the same time, a blockade of mines had been put into place around the atoll. Following Ahab’s last orders, every nuclear warhead on the Pequod launched in an effort to destroy the white whale. Pushing through the explosives, Moby Dick crushed the submarine just as the warheads detonated. Out of range from the titanic blast, the monstrous whale escaped its execution and remained king of the seas.
