History: Discovering a crashed alien ship in the frozen reaches of the Soviet Union, the Russian government began to experiment with recovered alien DNA. In an orbital laboratory, they fused the cells with that of common spiders, creating the perfect bio-weapon to eradicate the United States should the Cold War go hot. When the Soviet Union collapsed, the orbital space station was left to rot, its research projects completely forgotten about. In time, the station began to decay before completely falling apart. The twisted metal landed in the heart of New York City, bringing with it the spiders the Soviets had crafted.
Quickly, the arachnids grew in size and began to reproduce. They spawned a queen and guarded their lair. By the time the United States government enlisted the aid of a former Soviet scientist who helped in the project, all hell broke loose. The spiders claimed their territory and began to branch out, meeting legions of armed soldiers in the streets. Gunfire was met by primal fury in the heart of the metropolis until the queen emerged from the darkness. In her shadow, the smaller brood fled to the darkness, attacking anybody they could find.
However, when the queen was slain and the nest obliterated by the resulting explosion, the existence of the species was doomed. They couldn’t go on without a queen and what remained of the spiders above the subway tunnels would be ruthlessly hunted into extinction by cleanup crews.
