History: In the beginning of the new century, a cure for cancer was discovered. The vaccine was handed out regularly to people but soon a lethal consequence grew. The people vaccinated began to show signs of a rabies-like virus, turning normal men and women into hideous fiends that lost all the humanity they had. While over half of the world’s population died, a few million had turned into what were now being called Dark Seekers, monsters with the ability to infect others, including animals, with the virus.
A small handful of survivors managed to stay alive throughout the globe, combating the fiends, but one was a scientist by the name of Robert Neville. Still dreaming of finding a cure, he looked for the main nest of the vicious humanoids, capturing test subjects along the way.
As Robert grew even more lonely, the creature copied the way he captured one of their own, and soon tricked him, knocking him out and hanging him from a lamp post for hours until dark, when they could come out and rip him to pieces. He managed to wake up, but night was already coming. Two infected dogs charged, managing to bite and infect Robert’s dog Sam before he finally disposed of the dogs.
Once at home, after failing to cure the dog and being forced to kill it, Robert went on a self-destructive rampage to kill himself and as many Dark Seekers he could. Running several of the infected down with his vehicle before it was flipped over, his life was saved by the arrival of two other immune survivors; Anna and Ethan, both looking to make it to a survivors colony at a higher altitude where the virus couldn’t reach.
Later that night, it was discovered that the creatures from the previous night had followed them back to Robert’s house, and now an all out war had started. Overwhelming them in numbers, the creatures broke into Robert’s house, forcing the three into his basement where, just at the last second, Robert realized the cure was in the blood of his last test subject.
Getting a sample of it and giving it to Anna, he pushed the two into a secret hiding spot and readied himself to die. Pulling out a grenade, he pulled the pin and rushed the creatures just as the leader broke the glass separating the two. The grenade exploded, destroying the many monsters inside. The next morning, Anna and Ethan emerged and once again started their voyage, and soon ending it when delivering the cure to the colony.
