History: When an extinct species of spider was found frozen in the ice, it gave rise to the next generation of self-defense for the United States. By crossing its DNA with that of several normal species, scientists were capable of harnessing their silk to produce new forms of body armor and non-lethal weapons. However, one scientist saw more than just that. Professor Marks began to inject the hybrid arachnids with high doses of steroids and other chemicals, rapidly increasing their size so that they could be used as weapons of war. However, the man greatly underestimated their strength and ferocity. The group of spiders broke free of their confines and slaughtered the scientists of the lab.
It was hoped they wouldn’t have been able to move about outside in the snowy landscape of the mountain, but the size increase had affected their metabolism, allowing the spiders to thrive. They began to hunt and kill, feeding on animals and people alike. As a team headed by Professor Marks sought out the spiders, they reached a nearby ski resort! Their initial attack claimed dozens, forcing survivors to flee into the main structure and another group into a school bus. They were safe, but only for so long.
The spiders were relentless, trying to break through and feed. Just in time, the searching soldiers got in contact with those inside the cabin and they successfully prepared and laid a trap. Former pro-skier Dan ‘Dash’ Dashiell led the three remaining arachnids down the slopes to a trap laced with spider food. As they began to feed, nets were fired. They were captured. However, while Dash insisted the spiders be destroyed, Professor Marks argued otherwise.
Thankfully, Dash had this planned. With a given word, an avalanche cannon was fired at the trapped spiders. The priceless specimens of science were destroyed, or so everyone thought. After a short fight with the retired pro-skier, the professor was pushed down the slope and attacked by one of the spiders that survived. As it mauled his body and killed him, the soldiers open fire, destroying the last of the escaped creatures. Just as everyone was about to leave, another mysterious stranger arrived. With another spider caged up, the older gentlemen warned Dash that the program would continue and the government had already come up with the cover-story to protect its interests.
